Medicine Buddha Healing Rite

On July 3, 2008, The Midwest Reiki Convergence will host the Tibetan Monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery.
On the opening day and evening, they will bless the participants with with an offering called a Puja, mystical ceremonies of deep overtone chanting and prayers for healing. The Medicine Buddha Puja will be the focus of their offering.
Medicine Buddha Healing Rite
This tantric system is a ceremonial empowerment for healing by means of absorbing the energies of the eight healing buddhas, i.e., the eight aspects of enlightened living. In the Tibetan world, all practitioners associated with the healing profession seek out this empowerment, and then practice the associated mantra on a daily basis in order to enhance personal healing power.
The healing music associated with the mandala of the Medicine Buddha is perhaps the most popular with all Central Asians as a means of establishing individual wellness. Most monasteries perform this rite at least once a month in order to ensure the health and happiness of the surrounding community. In addition, an individual suffering from illness will often request monks or nuns to come to his or her house to perform the rite as a means of personal healing. The healing powers of the rite are channeled from the divine sphere of the Medicine Buddha Mandala into the mundane world of the individual by means of music, meditation, mantra and mudra, or “finger dance.”
Participants are welcome to submit names of family, friends and individuals who they wish to dedicate the prayers for health and healing.
